One of the more tragic losses this year was that of former child star Rory Sykes, who died at just 32 on January 8 due to an unexpected disaster caused by the California wildfires. He was a fixture on the beloved British children’s show Kiddy Capers.

 

The sports and entertainment realms were struck on January 16, as the deaths of iconic MLB broadcaster Bob Uecker, famously known as “Mr. Baseball,” and acclaimed director David Lynch were reported. Just a day later, on January 17, the family of Joan Plowright shared the heartbreaking news of her passing at 95 in her home country of England, where she was surrounded by loved ones.

 

February brought more somber news, beginning with the announcement that actress Michelle Trachtenberg had tragically passed away at the age of 39 on February 26. Following that, the next day brought the shocking discovery of the bodies of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa in their New Mexico home.

 

Gene Hackman, who was 95 at the time of his death, was found alongside Betsy, as well as their deceased pet dog. Authorities have indicated that foul play is not suspected, and Hackman’s daughter Elizabeth believes carbon monoxide poisoning may be to blame.
