Enrico Colantoni, the beloved actor from Just Shoot Me, recently opened up about his transformative journey in an exclusive interview. Turning 60 last year sparked a profound realization for Colantoni, who stated, “Something clicked in my head that said, ‘I don’t have much time left, so I’m going to enjoy every minute of it.’” This newfound perspective has instilled a vibrant enthusiasm for life into him, making each day feel more expansive and exciting.

The Canadian actor, widely recognized for his roles in the cult classic Galaxy Quest and the hit series Just Shoot Me! and Veronica Mars, is busier than ever. He has wrapped filming for the second season of FUBAR, a Netflix action comedy featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and is currently captivating audiences as Principal Grant Moretti on the feel-good FX comedy English Teacher. Colantoni expresses immense pride in the show, emphasizing its relevance and humor.

Reflecting on his upbringing in Toronto, Colantoni shared that he had no plans to become an actor initially. The son of Italian immigrants, his parents hoped he would either become a priest or pursue higher education. However, after taking a theater elective in college, he changed paths, ultimately moving to New York to chase his dreams. “I’m glad I moved to New York. I’m glad I had years of struggle. The adversity made me stronger,” he remarked, looking back fondly on his journey.

Colantoni’s big break came in 1994 when he appeared on an episode of NYPD Blue as Peter Boyle’s son, which opened doors to success in shows like Hope & Gloria and, notably, Just Shoot Me!. He acknowledges that his role in Galaxy Quest has left a lasting impact, keeping him in the hearts of fans.

Discussing his time on Veronica Mars, Colantoni reminisced about the camaraderie among the cast, stating that Kristen Bell, who was not yet a household name, had a unique talent. He noted the special bond formed among the Just Shoot Me! cast, highlighting the family-like atmosphere of sitcom filming.

Venturing into darker roles, Colantoni expressed enjoyment in playing Carl Elias on Person of Interest, a villainous character that allowed him to explore a different side of acting. As a father of six from two marriages, he shared insights on parenting, noting the challenge of balancing his imagination as an actor with the reality of being present for his children.

Colantoni’s love for travel is another passion he cherishes, describing it as akin to time travel. Each destination offers new experiences and perspectives, contributing to his personal growth.

Looking ahead, he aspires to direct something he has written, driven by a love for theater and the thrill of performing live. “I really just feel alive on stage, and it’s something I want to do again and again,” he said.

As for the key to happiness, Colantoni believes it is a conscious choice. “Happiness is a choice. We can see our lives as miserable and we’ll feel miserable. Start in gratitude and appreciate what you have,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of living in the moment.

In summary, Colantoni’s journey is a testament to resilience and the belief that pursuing one’s passion leads to fulfillment and joy.
