Halle Berry is reportedly “furious” that her legal battle with ex-husband Olivier Martinez continues, even eight years after their divorce.
According to an insider, Berry is determined to fight and won’t stay silent. Recently, the 58-year-old actress filed for sole custody of her 10-year-old son, Maceo, whom she shares with Martinez. In her August 16 filing, as revealed by Sydtomarket.net, Berry claimed that Martinez “refuses to co-parent or communicate in a child-centered way.”
Martinez’s legal team has indicated they will respond to Berry’s claims in the upcoming weeks.
This isn’t the first time Berry has had to fight for custody. She was involved in a contentious court battle with Gabriel Aubry, her former partner and the father of her 16-year-old daughter, Nahla, after their 2010 separation. The situation escalated when Berry married Martinez and wanted to relocate to France. A judge blocked her move and ordered her to pay Aubry $16,000 per month in child support.
Following the court ruling, tensions peaked when Martinez and Aubry were involved in a physical altercation at Berry’s home, leading to an emergency protective order against Aubry.
“Halle was frustrated, and some would say bitter, about having to pay Gabriel such a large amount,” the insider shared.
Now, as Berry faces another custody fight with Martinez, she has expressed concerns over his parenting. The actress has advocated for tutoring and therapy for Maceo due to “educational challenges,” but claims Martinez has been resistant to these measures. She is currently paying him $8,000 per month in child support.
Berry has been married three times and described herself as a “hopeless romantic.” Her first marriage to MLB player David Justice ended in 1997 amid rumors of domestic violence. Though Berry never named her abuser, many assumed it was Justice, which he has denied.
Her second marriage to singer Eric Benét also ended in divorce in 2003 after Benét admitted to infidelity and sought treatment for sex addiction.
Berry’s new relationship with singer Van Hunt, whom she started dating during the pandemic, has been a bright spot in her life. Hunt has supported her through her ongoing legal battle with Martinez. “Van is very protective of Halle and wants to ensure she feels safe,” the insider noted.
In her latest film, The Union, Berry stars alongside Mark Wahlberg as a spy who reconnects with a former high school sweetheart and pulls him into a risky mission 25 years later.
