Luke Grimes: Filming ‘Yellowstone’ Was ‘Different’ Without Kevin Costner

Grimes acknowledged Costner’s significant presence on set, expressing that filming without him was a shift for the entire cast. “He’s a big presence, man; the guy’s an icon,” Grimes stated. “Not having him around felt a little different. Nevertheless, we’re like a big family now. The experience was still special, and I hope the audience connects with the story just as much—I’m sure they will.”

In June 2023, Costner himself took to social media to confirm his departure, sharing his feelings with fans. “I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue with season 5B or into the future,” Costner said in a video message. His decision to leave, he explained, was less about drama and more about moving forward after dedicating substantial time to the project. “I gave this thing five seasons. I was really happy to do it. And I don’t need drama,” he noted.
