Tess Daly’s Strictly Ban Before Saturday’s Live Show

In the world of glitzy television, few shows capture the spectacle and excitement like Strictly Come Dancing. And at the heart of this beloved competition is Tess Daly, the charismatic host who has been a fixture since 2004. As the show returns to the screen on November 9, Tess opens up about some surprising challenges she faces while keeping the show running smoothly.

In a candid discussion with Elle magazine, Tess revealed a strict rule she adheres to: no drinking water for two hours prior to the Saturday live broadcast. The reason? The frantic pace of live television makes restroom breaks nearly impossible. “I can’t drink any water for two hours before the show,” she explained. “As we are live, there is just not enough time to get to the loo.” However, Tess did note that during her pregnancies with daughters Phoebe and Amber, she was exempt from this unusual restriction, humorously adding, “Oh no, that wouldn’t have been possible. I was allowed to go then.”

Tess’s challenges don’t end there. Known for her stunning fashion choices, she has often donned exquisite gowns that, while glamorous, come with their own set of difficulties. In a 2021 interview, she bravely shared the discomfort that accompanies wearing tightly fitted dresses. Despite her fast metabolism, which allows her to indulge in chocolate, she confessed, “I’m breathing in most of the time in those tight dresses on Strictly.”

Furthermore, Tess has expressed her frustration with the towering heels that have become part of her on-screen wardrobe. In a recent interview, she highlighted the hazards of navigating the Strictly studio in high heels, stating, “There are lots of camera cables everywhere and I’m running across at speed to greet a couple after their dance.” With a touch of humor, she noted a narrow escape from a potential spill, saying, “Last week, I swear, I righted myself in time just before I hit the floor.” As she advocates for more practical footwear, Tess insisted, “Can I have slightly lower heels now? Four inches isn’t going to cut it!”

Fans can catch Tess Daly in action on Strictly Come Dancing tonight at 6:35 PM on BBC1. As the show continues to captivate audiences, Tess remains a cherished figure, bravely navigating the unique challenges of live television with grace and humor.
