Josh Widdicombe announced as first contestant for 2024 Strictly Christmas special

Get ready for some festive fun as the first celebrity contestant for the 2024 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special has been unveiled: comedian Josh Widdicombe. The highly-anticipated holiday edition of the beloved dance competition will air on Christmas Day, December 25, bringing joy to fans with another lineup of celebrities seeking to win the title of Strictly Christmas Champion 2024.

During an episode of Strictly: It Takes Two on November 11, the news broke that Josh would be the inaugural star of the special. The comedian expressed his nervousness about dancing in front of the nation, saying, “I am utterly terrified this will end in humiliation. And worried I’m going to be so bad I will ruin Christmas for the nation. Why have I done this?”

In this festive showdown, Josh will be paired with professional dancer Karen Hauer. Known for his television appearances on Channel 4’s The Last Leg, A League of Their Own, Have I Got News For You, and Taskmaster, Josh is sure to bring his unique flair to the dance floor.

Returning to judge the performances will be the familiar faces of Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and head judge Shirley Ballas. Six celebrity couples will perform their holiday-themed routines, all vying for the coveted champion’s trophy.

Last year’s Christmas special featured a star-studded lineup, including broadcaster Dan Snow, BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent, and EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick, who took home the trophy with a perfect score of 40 for their quickstep.

As excitement builds for the 2024 Strictly Christmas special, fans are invited to share their thoughts and anticipation on social media. Will Josh be able to impress the judges and viewers alike? With Christmas right around the corner, all eyes will be on the dance floor for this festive spectacle.
