This Morning Faces Criticism Over I’m A Celebrity Segment

The popular daytime show This Morning drew ire from viewers during a segment related to I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! today. With the highly anticipated return of the series set for this weekend, ten celebrities will venture into the Australian jungle for a series of challenging Bushtucker trials, hosted once again by Ant and Dec.

To celebrate the new season, hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary participated in a live trial segment where they reached into mystery boxes to retrieve stars. Among the surprises were creatures like toads and mice. As Dermot plunged his hands into the box housing toads, a loud screech escaped him, prompting a similar response from Alison. Throughout the trial, regular contributor Sian Welby advised them to handle the animals gently. Dermot remarked, “That was horrific,” when confronted with the toads, while Alison’s turn with the mice led to her own screeching reaction.

Despite the segment’s light-hearted intent, it sparked significant backlash online from some viewers. One commentator voiced frustration on social media, stating, “Frustrated that yet again animals are being used as entertainment… so disappointing.” Another added, “What is it with ITV and animal cruelty?” Criticism escalated when a viewer pointed out the show’s earlier discussion about a red panda that died due to fright from fireworks, questioning the inconsistency with their treatment of animals during the segment. A follow-up comment echoed this sentiment, calling the situation “ridiculous.”

On the other hand, many viewers found the segment entertaining, particularly enjoying Dermot’s frightened reactions. One fan exclaimed, “After watching that, Dermot would be amazing on I’m A Celeb,” while another suggested, “That’s it, Dermot definitely needs to do the jungle. That was hilarious.”
