Prince William’s ex-aide expresses heartfelt farewell after four years of service

In a poignant message shared on LinkedIn, Lieutenant Commander Rob Dixon announced his departure from his role as Prince William’s equerry, stating that it was time for him to move on. Dixon, 42, reflected on his incredible journey working closely with the royal family since his appointment in 2020. Initially serving William, he later became Princess Kate Middleton’s equerry, working alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales throughout a significant four-year period.

Dixon noted the challenging yet rewarding nature of his role, emphasizing the valuable lessons he learned during his time with a dedicated and passionate team. His farewell message captured both his gratitude and the surreal experiences he shared with the royal family, including high-profile events such as the Platinum Jubilee and the funerals of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

“There were moments when our entire Household was involved in engagements, and there were times I had to step up and take charge alone,” he shared. “Now, I am ready to transition back to my daily duties in the Royal Navy, which feels like the right next step for me.”

As he prepares for his new role, which will see Squadron Leader Mike Reynolds take over his responsibilities as equerry, Dixon expressed excitement about the future and appreciation for his time within ‘Team Cambridge’ and ‘Team Wales’. He concluded his message with a warm farewell, wishing everyone he worked with “fair winds and following seas.”

The recent changes come amidst King Charles III’s ongoing efforts to streamline the monarchy following significant family health challenges that have affected their public engagements. Meanwhile, a biographer revealed that Prince William and Princess Kate have intentionally kept their household staff to a minimum, highlighting their preference for a more intimate family environment at home.
