Former President Trump took aim at Fox News during a rally in Wisconsin, expressing his disdain for the network’s decision to broadcast Vice President Harris’s comments following her visit to the southern border in Arizona.
“I can’t believe I had to sit through her nonsense last night. And guess who airs it? Fox News, which shouldn’t even be allowed to do that,” Trump stated, asserting that Harris’s words were nothing but falsehoods.
During her address, Harris vowed to reinforce border security and combat the influx of illicit drugs into the United States.
As Election Day approaches, Trump has made immigration a central theme in his campaign, persistently criticizing the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies. Polling data indicate that immigration and the economy are prominent concerns among voters.
Since Harris declared her candidacy in July, she has been labeled as Biden’s “border czar” by Republicans, a title some media outlets have picked up following the president’s 2021 directive for her to lead initiatives aimed at managing migration from Mexico and the Northern Triangle.
The Trump campaign wasted no time launching its first ad against Harris after she became the leading figure on the Democratic ticket, attacking her involvement with border issues.
In contrast, Harris has defended her immigration policy record, claiming in a recent advertisement that she is more stringent on these matters than Trump himself.
Earlier this week, Trump criticized Harris’s planned trip to Arizona, suggesting her motivations were purely political.
“After nearly four years, Kamala Harris, our Border Czar, has decided it’s time for a visit to our severely compromised Southern Border, and it’s only for political reasons,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “It’s outrageous that she has waited this long, permitting millions to enter our country from prisons and other unstable environments worldwide, not just from South America. Many among them are terrorists, and the situation has reached unprecedented levels.”
Despite record high migrant encounters at the border by the end of 2023, apprehensions by border patrol were significantly lower during the summer compared to the previous year, as the Biden administration implemented stricter immigration measures. July saw the lowest number of border encounters in the past four years.
