What the Blue Bloods Cast Shares About a Possible Spinoff

Is a spinoff of Blue Bloods on the horizon? While CBS has yet to make any official announcement, the show’s cast and crew are certainly not shying away from discussing the prospect of extending the beloved franchise. With Season 14 set to be the series’ finale, fans are left wondering about the future of the Reagan clan, headed by Tom Selleck’s memorable character, Frank Reagan.

Tom Selleck expressed his feelings about the show’s conclusion: “I’m kind of frustrated,” he revealed to TV Insider. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.”

Donnie Wahlberg, who has portrayed Danny Reagan throughout the series, commented on the possibility of a spinoff. “There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs, about various concepts,” he stated. “For me personally, I would say whatever happens next, if it’s done with the spirit of Blue Bloods and the care we tried to put into Blue Bloods every week, I would look forward to watching or being a part of it.” He acknowledged that the ideas have ranged from prequels to sequels.

Looking ahead to the final episodes, Wahlberg mentioned, “There’s a final season of Blue Bloods still to air, so I’m looking forward to watching those episodes with all of my incredible fans of the show.” He emphasized the importance of engaging with the audience and expressed hope that something would come to extend the show’s legacy.

However, CBS Studios President David Stapf provided a more cautious outlook on the spinoff situation. He said, “We don’t have anything that’s going to be in development soon, but it’s a brand that is beloved. We need to get it right, so we’re taking our time to figure out what the next iteration of Blue Bloods could be.”

Selleck had previously held out hope for the continuation of the show, pointing out their impressive ratings as “the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast.” Despite his optimism about the series, he admitted, “I don’t want to spin off right now. This is very fresh for me, and I’m still grieving because we all wanted to continue.”

Abigail Hawk, known for her role as Abigail Baker, shared that the idea of a spinoff so soon after the series finale isn’t her priority. “I don’t want to spin off right now,” she said. “I’m still grieving because we all wanted to continue. However, I do think there are certain characters that could have amazing lives beyond the Reagan universe, and I think my character is one of them.”

As the cast navigates these changes, fans remain hopeful for the future of Blue Bloods and any potential stories that may emerge in its wake. The show has certainly left its mark, and its legacy could very well continue in new and exciting forms.
