Olivia Rodrigo Terrified After 30-Minute Interrogation by Federal Officers Due to Mistaken Identity

Olivia Rodrigo Interrogated by Officers at Canada Border

In a surprising turn of events, Olivia Rodrigo found herself in an awkward and alarming situation while touring in Canada. The pop sensation, currently in the midst of her sold-out global tour, shared her frightening experience during a recent interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Rodrigo, a name that’s become synonymous with chart-topping hits since her breakout single “Drivers License,” revealed that she was subjected to a half-hour interrogation by federal officers due to a case of mistaken identity. At just 21 years old, she’s made a remarkable impact on the music scene, recently receiving the title of “Touring Artist of the Year” from Billboard after wrapping up her GUTS World Tour, which grossed an impressive $186.6 million.

While traveling from Canada to Portland, Rodrigo was unexpectedly pulled aside at border control. She recounted the bizarre ordeal, saying, “I got in trouble with the law for the first time in my life.” After presenting her passport, she was startled when officers asked for her by name and brought her to an interrogation room at 3 a.m.

“I’m delirious, and they take me to a room with a big cop,” she said. “He asked me if I’d ever been arrested,” to which Rodrigo fervently replied, “No! I haven’t been arrested!” However, the officer’s unwavering insistence made her second-guess herself, leading to a heightened state of panic: “I’m gaslighting myself, like: ‘Oh my god, maybe I was arrested and I didn’t know it!’”

Throughout the intense 30-minute questioning, Olivia felt increasingly anxious, fearing she might not be allowed entry into the U.S. “I’m freaking out,” she admitted. “I’m having a panic attack.” The situation took a humorous turn when the officer finally asked for her full name. “After the interrogation, he says, ‘What’s your name?’ and I say, ‘Olivia Rodrigo: R O D R I G O.’ He then tells me there’s a girl named Olivia Rodriguez who looks just like me and has a history of arrests.”

Frustrated by the misunderstanding, Rodrigo expressed her incredulity, stating, “I was pissed! You interrogate me for 30 minutes without checking the name?” Thankfully, the mix-up was clarified without any further complications.

The comedic yet distressing incident highlights not just the pressures of fame and touring but also the bizarre situations that can arise unexpectedly. As Olivia continues her successful tour, one can only imagine how she will recount this story in the years to come. Meanwhile, her GUTS World Tour Concert Film is now streaming on Netflix, perhaps a great watch for those federal agents at the Canadian border.
