Fauci Receives $15 Million in Taxpayer-Funded Security Post-Retirement, Sparking Outrage

Dr. Anthony Fauci is under scrutiny for reportedly receiving a substantial $15 million in taxpayer-funded security, even after his retirement. As revealed, Fauci has enjoyed the services of a chauffeur and a U.S. Marshals security detail, despite stepping down from his position in December 2022. This arrangement continued at least until September 2024, raising questions about the rationale behind such extensive security for a retired public servant.

At 83 years of age, Fauci served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), where he played a pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic. His prominence and influence during that time earned him the title of the highest-paid federal employee from 2019 to 2022, with a retirement salary of $480,654 and an estimated pension of $355,000 annually.

Opinions are sharply divided regarding this use of public funds. A source voiced criticism, stating, “This is sickening – hard-up Americans will be outraged.” With the recent election of President Trump, there are expectations that this issue may be among the first he addresses in office.

Details about the security budget indicate that the $15 million expenditure encompasses not only salaries and benefits for the security personnel and chauffeurs but also logistical costs associated with transporting Fauci and maintaining law enforcement equipment. However, the decision-making process leading to this substantial allocation remains murky, and it is unclear whether these contracts extend beyond September 2024.

Fauci has defended the security arrangements, citing numerous credible threats against him, including those stemming from radical extremists. He communicated his concerns in a July 2023 interview, explaining that the threats were serious enough to warrant continuous federal protection, which he described as “completely crazy.”

Throughout the pandemic, Fauci implemented stringent public health measures, including mask mandates and social distancing guidelines, which have been met with both public support and severe backlash. Following his retirement, he has continued to face hostility, including allegations regarding the origins of the coronavirus and undue blame for the pandemic’s handling.

In June 2024, while testifying before Congress, Fauci detailed the alarming nature of the threats he has received, emphasizing the impact on his family. The string of credible threats has led to heightened security needs, described by Fauci as “very troublesome.”

This continued scrutiny of Fauci and his taxpayer-funded security detail encapsulates a larger debate about government spending and accountability in a post-pandemic world. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this will be addressed by the new administration and what implications it may have for public servants and their safety in the future.
