During an interview with The Sunday Times, Anderson opened up about her complex familial relationships, describing her parents as “loving” despite the trauma she experienced growing up. She emphasized that while they tried to protect her, she still suffered unspeakable violations.

Anderson first hinted at these painful experiences in a stark speech during the Cannes Film Festival back in 2014. She recalled, “I didn’t have an easy childhood. Although my parents loved me, I was molested from six years old by a female babysitter.” She recounted a harrowing incident where a friend’s older brother assaulted her: “I was just 12, and he was 25.”

The shocking revelations continued as the actress detailed a traumatic experience with a school boyfriend who laughed while he and six others gang-raped her. She admitted to feeling overwhelming despair, stating, “I wanted off this earth.”

Reflecting on her upbringing, Anderson remarked on her parents’ troubled relationship. She expressed her initial frustrations with her mother for staying with her father, who struggled with alcoholism. However, she later came to understand and accept their bond.

In the wake of her revelations, Anderson’s mother Carol expressed her devastation upon learning of her daughter’s experiences. Carol stated, “This is a terrible, dramatic thing to have happened to Pamela. I had no idea, and I feel like I failed to protect her.”

She explained the shock she felt after receiving an email from Pamela detailing the speech made in France, which left her feeling numb. Carol also mentioned her son’s emotional reaction, emphasizing the pain felt by the family upon realizing the depth of Pamela’s suffering.
