Zendaya Speaks Out on Euphoria’s Production Delays: It’s Not About Her Schedule
Zendaya, the star of HBO’s hit series Euphoria, has responded to questions surrounding the show’s delayed return, clarifying that her own schedule is not to blame. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Zendaya, 28, remarked on her anticipation for the show’s continuation, stating, “I will say, I have been off for a couple of years. Euphoria is not delayed because of me… I’ve just been waiting.”
The actress expressed her eagerness to return to the set as she prepares to shoot a different project soon, admitting her concerns about being away from filming for nearly two years. “I’m a little bit terrified. I’m like, ‘Can I even do this anymore?’” she mused. Zendaya mentioned that filming for Euphoria is tentatively set to begin in early 2025.
Fans of Euphoria are not the only ones looking for clarity about the series’ future; the cast is equally eager for updates. The show originally debuted in June 2019, following the life of high school student Rue, portrayed by Zendaya, as she navigates her struggles with sobriety.
Zendaya revealed, “I believe Euphoria is slated for January. I haven’t read anything yet, but I’m excited to see what everyone has been working on and what the future looks like for Euphoria.” She emphasized her commitment to portraying Rue authentically, saying, “My utmost priority is to do justice to the people who love and care about Rue.”
Since it first aired, Euphoria has garnered significant attention, both for its storytelling and its controversies. After its premiere, the series was quickly renewed for a second season, but fans had to wait nearly three years for new episodes. During that time, HBO released two special episodes focusing on the aftermath of Rue and Jules’ breakup.
The third season was initially scheduled to air in 2025, but multiple delays occurred due to creator Sam Levinson’s involvement with another project and the impact of the recent dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. While HBO aims to deliver an exceptional new season, production was postponed again without a specific start date.
Zendaya’s portrayal of Rue is particularly poignant, especially following the loss of her co-star Angus Cloud, who played Fezco and tragically passed away in July 2023 at just 25. After his death, Zendaya shared heartfelt tributes, honoring his memory and the light he brought to those around him.
With Euphoria’s production finally set to begin in early 2025, both fans and the cast are hopeful for the next chapter of Rue’s journey. As Zendaya continues to prepare for her return, her dedication to her character and the show’s legacy remains unwavering.
