Mike Tyson Reflects on Jake Paul Fight, Claims He “Still Won”
November 16, 2024
Despite the results of his recent bout with Jake Paul, boxing legend Mike Tyson feels victorious in more ways than one. “In a way, this is the classic scenario where you can lose but still come out on top. I hold no regrets about stepping into the ring once again,” Tyson, 58, expressed via social media following the fight. “After facing life-threatening health issues just months ago, including multiple blood transfusions and significant weight loss, I won simply by being able to compete.”
Tyson continued, “Sharing this experience with my children, standing toe to toe and completing 8 rounds at a packed stadium, is a privilege that most can only dream of. I’m deeply thankful.”
Shortly after Tyson’s statement, 27-year-old Jake Paul responded to his sentiments, saying, “Love you Mike. It was an honor. You’re an inspiration to us all.”
In a sudden twist of fate at the highly anticipated Netflix event, Paul emerged as the victor against Tyson—a result that surprised both fans and athletes alike. Following the match, Paul praised Tyson, calling him “a legend” and acknowledging the impact Tyson has had on many aspiring fighters.
Earlier this year, Tyson faced a medical emergency related to an ulcer while traveling, prompting concerns about his health. Despite these challenges, Tyson was determined to fight, insisting he didn’t need to be at his best to take on Paul. This led to the bout being postponed from its original July date to November 15.
The build-up to the fight was filled with excitement, and Tyson humorously downplayed legacy concerns in a recent interview, focusing instead on the present.
In a joint statement, Tyson’s team and Paul agreed to the postponement, ensuring both fighters would have adequate preparation time.
The highly publicized match took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and was streamed live across multiple platforms. Following the victory, Paul reiterated, “It’s truly an honor. Mike is an icon, and fighting him was incredibly challenging, just as I expected.”
Tyson, maintaining a gracious perspective post-fight, stated, “I didn’t prove anything to anyone but myself. It’s not about pleasing the outside world; it’s about my own satisfaction with what I can accomplish.”
