Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was taken into custody on allegations of rape, following previous incidents involving a female acquaintance. The 27-year-old’s arrest was confirmed by police, who stated that the charges pertain to a sexual act involving a victim who was unable to resist.
This development comes just three months after Høiby was accused of assaulting Rebecca Helberg Arntsen at her residence in Oslo, an incident classified by authorities as violent. Høiby had previously faced arrest in August for reportedly causing bodily harm in a domestic setting and was later detained for breaching a restraining order.
When apprehended again this week, Høiby was reportedly in a vehicle with the same woman connected to the earlier allegations, and the nature of the current investigation suggests potential domestic abuse implications. Law enforcement is yet to determine whether Høiby will continue to face custody.
After his earlier arrest, Høiby acknowledged his involvement in the assault, describing the victim as his girlfriend, a claim denied by her representatives. In a statement relayed by his attorney, Høiby expressed that he has been battling several mental health issues and substance use challenges. He admitted to behaving violently while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine during the altercation, emphasizing his regret for the incident.
He stated that despite his personal struggles, he takes full responsibility for his actions and seeks to address the situation honestly with law enforcement. Høiby expressed his remorse to the victim, stating that she deserved better treatment, as well as to his family, acknowledging the widespread impact of his actions.
He is the product of a prior relationship before Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s marriage to Crown Prince Haakon in 2001. Haakon, while abroad representing the UN, remarked that he wishes he could be with his family during this difficult time. He emphasized the need for the legal system to have the necessary space to conduct their investigation properly and expressed his trust in the process.
Princess Mette-Marit has yet to publicly comment on her son’s recent arrest.
