Patrick Mahomes Spotted on Cart Following Ankle Injury in Chiefs Game
In a concerning development for Kansas City Chiefs fans, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was seen limping off the field due to an ankle injury during the December 15 matchup against the Cleveland Browns. The incident occurred in the fourth quarter, leading to his replacement by backup quarterback Carson Wentz. Initially listed as questionable to return, Mahomes left the field noticeably in pain and was later seen being transported in a cart.
Reflecting on the injury, Mahomes noted, “I was trying to make a play happen. As I threw the ball, I got hit, and it felt like someone hit me from behind, so I got rolled up on. That’s football. I’ll focus on the rehab now and aim to be ready for next week.” Despite not re-entering the game, Mahomes was an observer as the Chiefs secured a 21-7 victory over the Browns.
After the game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shared insights on Mahomes’ condition, stating, “His right ankle is sore but not broken. He’ll be day-to-day. We’ll monitor the swelling and see how he does.” Reid emphasized that Mahomes might have been able to return to the field but decided against it, noting, “He wanted to go back in, but there was no need for that.”
Mahomes’ injury came after he faced two defensive players, Ogbo Okoronkwo and Mike Hall Jr., in a play that left him with a high ankle sprain. Reid confirmed the situation, adding, “He probably could have gone back in, but the smarter choice was to keep him out.”
As the Chiefs prepare for their final games of the season, including upcoming matchups against the Houston Texans on December 21 and the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 25, Mahomes’ status remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Mahomes had recently faced controversy after being fined for unsportsmanlike conduct during a previous game against the Buffalo Bills.
With a playoff push looming, Mahomes and the Chiefs must navigate the challenges of injuries and the pursuit of a Super Bowl appearance.
