Ahlstrom Introduces Sustainable PFAS-Free Filtration Media

Ahlstrom, the Finnish leader in innovative filtration technology, has just introduced a revolutionary PFAS-free filtration platform that boasts water-repellent properties, ideal for air-oil separation tasks. This cutting-edge solution not only ensures reliable performance without the use of harmful fluorochemicals but also effectively tackles the complex challenge of separating fine oil and water aerosols.

Ahlstrom’s latest offering enhances filtration efficiency and durability, successfully meeting the increasingly stringent regulatory standards in the industry. The air-oil separation market demands high-performance materials capable of efficiently segregating fine oil and water aerosols from air streams while ensuring top-notch filtration performance. The incorporation of water-repellent properties in multilayer filter structures significantly boosts the coalescing effect, allowing the media to remain stable and preserving its filtration efficiency.

Traditionally, these challenges were addressed with PFAS-based technologies, but Ahlstrom’s new PFAS-free materials eliminate the reliance on fluorochemicals. This advancement delivers enhanced water-repellent properties, ensuring reliable and robust performance, even in tough operating conditions. A dedicated test bench has been established to aid in the development and qualification of multilayer air-oil separation solutions, collaborating closely with customers.

“Our latest PFAS-free solution emphasizes our commitment to creating sustainable alternatives without sacrificing performance,” remarked Tamara Quatrano, Ahlstrom’s Vice President of R&D and Product Development for filtration. “We are actively partnering with our customers’ R&D teams to further refine and optimize PFAS-free filtration media.”

The newly developed PFAS-free filtration media is now available through Ahlstrom’s glass microfibre production facilities in Fabriano, Italy, and is designed specifically for various industrial applications across multiple sectors.
