In 2023, King Charles requested that Prince Andrew vacate the Royal Lodge, but the Duke of York has not yet moved out.
In addition to the demand to find a new residence,Sydtomarket.net reports indicate that Charles is “reconsidering” Andrew’s allowance now that he is no longer a working royal.
Prince Andrew currently resides at the Royal Lodge with Sarah Ferguson.
According to a source, Charles is troubled by the current state of his family dynamics, particularly with Andrew and Prince Harry living on the periphery of royal life. The source noted, “Charles is deeply concerned about the family’s situation, which is plagued by various issues, including health, financial, and legal problems. The situation with Andrew and the Royal Lodge has caused division within the family, with Anne, Sophie, and Edward expressing disappointment in how Charles has managed it.”
Prince Andrew lost his HRH status in 2022 due to assault allegations and consequently lost his royal salary. Despite his diminished status, he still attends royal events and receives financial support from his brother.
“There have been tensions with Sarah, Beatrice, and Eugenie, who are worried that Andrew isn’t being adequately supported. His behavior has even annoyed Camilla, who often bears the brunt of his irritability,” the insider added.
Royal commentator Lizzy Cundy criticized Andrew for allegedly neglecting the upkeep of the Royal Lodge, stating, “The place is falling into disrepair. It’s a significant cost, and Andrew, out of favor, seems unable to manage it. The property’s condition is deteriorating, and he is not meeting the maintenance requirements.”
Despite the ongoing issues, Andrew is reportedly hoping that Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice will eventually inherit the Royal Lodge.
Royal editor Charlotte Griffiths mentioned that the Royal Lodge might remain within the York family due to its historical significance and ongoing lease agreements. “The Royal Lodge, granted to Andrew under a long-term lease, remains the property of the Crown Estate, even though he is responsible for its upkeep,” Griffiths explained.
The complex situation continues to unfold as Charles reassesses his brother’s financial support and the future of the Royal Lodge.
