Celebrities Criticize California Leaders Amid Destructive Wildfires
Amid raging wildfires in Southern California, a chorus of celebrities is directing sharp criticism at local and state leaders, particularly Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. The wildfires, which have rampaged through the region for a third consecutive day, have resulted in five fatalities and the destruction of approximately 2,000 structures.
Among those voicing their frustrations are stars such as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jillian Michaels, and Sara Foster. The outcry follows devastating footage of flames consuming homes, including those belonging to notable figures like Tina Knowles, Miles Teller, and Candy Spelling, in the upscale neighborhood of Pacific Palisades.
Reality stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag shared their agonizing experience of having to evacuate their residence, only to witness their possessions turn to ash via security camera. Paris Hilton expressed her heartbreak after seeing her home engulfed in flames on live television.
In response to the ongoing disaster, many celebrities have taken to social media to share resources for those affected, while others have called for urgent political reform. Gellar, 47, took to Instagram to express her anger toward Mayor Bass, highlighting the chaos of evacuation routes and the apparent lack of traffic control.
Foster, 43, posted on X to air her grievances: “We pay the highest taxes in California. Our fire hydrants were empty. Our vegetation was overgrown, and brush not cleared. Our reservoirs were depleted because tribal leaders wanted to save fish. Our fire department budget was slashed by our mayor.”
Foster, like former President Donald Trump, urged both Newsom and Bass to resign, claiming their policies have worsened the situation in California.
Jillian Michaels, who experienced her own home burning in the 2018 Woolsey fire, expressed deep outrage on behalf of the victims. She pushed back against state leaders for their perceived lack of action and called for the National Guard’s involvement sooner. Michaels stated, “People are dead, homes have burned. Isn’t this the time to allocate resources to rebuild infrastructure?”
As the wildfires continue to wreak havoc, the voices of discontent among celebrities highlight a growing frustration with governmental response during such catastrophic events.
