Coexecutive Producer Calls End of ‘Blue Bloods’ After 14 Seasons ‘Incredibly Sad’

Blue Bloods Producer Expresses Deep Sadness Over Series Conclusion

The end of an era for Blue Bloods has left fans and the show’s team reflecting on the impact of the series, which wrapped up its impressive 14-season run recently. Santiago Quiñones, the coexecutive producer of Blue Bloods, shared his heartfelt emotions regarding the show’s conclusion. In a recent interview, he revealed the bittersweet nature of wrapping up such a long-standing project.

“It’s not just a privilege to bring something to a close after so many years, but it’s also incredibly sad,” Santiago expressed, recalling the strong bonds formed among the cast and crew over the years. He emphasized how deeply the finale affected everyone involved. “It was tough to see my crew, who became like family, go away. It really hit home when we finished wrapping up on set—everything that had become a routine was suddenly over.”

After airing its final episode on CBS on December 13, 2024, Blue Bloods, which began its run in 2010, featured a stellar cast, including Tom Selleck as Frank Reagan, the head of a family steeped in law enforcement traditions. The show consistently captivated audiences during its Friday night timeslot.

Santiago reflected on the many cherished moments shared throughout the show’s history, remarking, “I kept telling myself, ‘We won’t have those experiences together in those spaces again.’ It was really difficult. A decade of my life was wrapped up in this journey.” Initially hesitant about forming friendships out of concern for his long-term commitment to the project, he ultimately found himself emotionally intertwined with his colleagues.

Despite the conclusion of Blue Bloods, CBS announced plans for a new spinoff titled Boston Blue. This series will see Donnie Wahlberg reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan, who transitions to the Boston Police Department. As he settles into this new environment, he will partner with detective Lena Peters, a member of a prominent law enforcement family in Boston.

While Donnie is the first cast member confirmed for the spinoff, many original actors expressed interest in continuing their involvement in the franchise. Tom Selleck, now 80, has been vocal about his reluctance to let go of his character. Reports have surfaced that he is open to making cameo appearances in the new series when it premieres during the 2025-2026 season.

Insiders revealed that the camaraderie between Tom and Donnie has grown over the years, establishing a bond that resembles family. Their friendship, cultivated over nearly 15 years, represents the strong connections formed on set.

As Blue Bloods closes its chapter, it leaves behind a legacy of storytelling and character development that resonated with viewers, while the journey ahead in Boston Blue hints at more adventures in the beloved universe.
