Emily Simpson from The Real Housewives of Orange County recently opened up about her painful experience with a miscarriage involving twins. During her appearance on Scheana Shay’s podcast “Scheananigans,” Emily shared her journey of fertility challenges she faced along with her husband, Shane Simpson.
Reflecting on their early attempts to start a family, Emily, now 48, recalled feeling the pressure of time at the age of 32. She stated that she and Shane began trying to conceive soon after their marriage 15 years ago. Despite their hopes, Emily suffered multiple miscarriages, estimating that she experienced five or six before deciding to pursue in vitro fertilization.
After undergoing IVF, she discovered she was pregnant with twins but faced a devastating miscarriage in her second trimester. Emily described the moment vividly, recounting how while at Costco, she expressed unease about her pregnancy just before her water broke. Knowing the implications of this event, she and Shane rushed to the emergency room in Utah, where Emily was confronted with the heartbreaking reality that she had to deliver the twins knowing they would not survive.
“It was the most awful experience I’ve ever gone through,” Emily admitted, recalling how she clung to Shane during the ordeal, declaring she could never endure such pain again. The aftermath was equally traumatic, leading to an emergency D&C and a blood transfusion, and leaving her with the harrowing memories of the experience.
Emily revealed that during her recovery, her sister Sara Moffitt, who had previously had a child, offered to become a surrogate for her and Shane. Emily expressed her appreciation for her sister’s incredible sacrifice, as she has since given birth to Emily and Shane’s three children: Annabelle, aged 11, and twins Luke and Keller, both 9.
The journey to motherhood hasn’t been easy for many, including celebrity families facing similar struggles with conception. Emily’s story sheds light on the emotional turmoil and health challenges that can accompany such experiences, highlighting the importance of support from loved ones through the most difficult times.
