Former New York Governor David Paterson has reacted strongly against demands for New York City Mayor Eric Adams to resign in light of a recent five-count criminal indictment related to a federal corruption investigation. Paterson called the calls for resignation “really outrageous,” emphasizing that they come before Adams has even faced trial. In an appearance on John Catsimatidis’ “Cats Roundtable” on WABC 770 AM, Paterson questioned the motives of those urging Adams to step down, saying, “Who are these people? They certainly shouldn’t be living in America.”

While the majority of Democratic officials have not joined the chorus asking for Adams’ resignation, notable figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Jerry Nadler have been vocal in their calls for him to step down. According to reports, Adams is facing serious legal challenges, having been charged with offenses including wire fraud and bribery, yet he has categorically denied any wrongdoing and stated emphatically that he refuses to resign.

In a recent interview, Paterson expressed praise for current New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who, while not calling for Adams’ ouster, advised him to “clean house.” Paterson referred to a “private” conversation Hochul had with Adams, urging him to remove anyone in his administration who might be under investigation. He noted this as a significant move in leadership, stating, “It is the most dynamic demonstration of leadership that the governor has taken in her time.” Paterson commended Hochul for taking an active role in how the city is managed during this tumultuous period.

As the situation develops, Adams remains determined to maintain his position despite the mounting legal troubles.
