Lady Gaga Opens Up About Her Battle with Psychosis
In a candid moment on The Interview podcast, Lady Gaga shared her personal struggles with mental health, revealing her experience with psychosis five years ago. The singer spoke about her time grappling with reality, a journey defined by feelings of disconnection and disillusionment.
Gaga described psychosis as a state that plunged her into a reality where distinguishing truth from illusion became a challenge. “I was not deeply in touch with reality for a while. It took me out of life in a big way,” she shared. After years of hard work and perseverance, she found her way back.
Reflecting on her early career, Gaga highlighted the influence of her onstage personas, which contributed to her mental health struggles. “I had to find a way to bring together my stage energy and my everyday self in a way that felt empowering,” she explained. “There’s a ferocity and intensity to my performance, but I also wanted to be a kind person. I learned to coexist with those parts of myself without them clashing.”
Despite the challenges, Gaga acknowledged that discussing these issues remains difficult for her. “It’s something that I have found increasingly harder to talk about. I hate feeling defined by it. It felt like something I felt ashamed of,” she confessed. However, she emphasized the importance of sharing her experience, urging others not to feel ashamed about their struggles. “I just want to say, it can get better. It did for me, and I’m grateful for that.”
Gaga’s openness about her journey is a reminder that recovery is possible, and she continues to inspire many with her resilience. She encourages those facing similar challenges to seek help and hold onto hope.
