Max George wrote his will in the hospital after a heart scare.

Max George faced a deeply unsettling moment in his life when he found himself in a hospital bed, battling a serious heart condition. The beloved singer of The Wanted, aged 36, revealed that in the wake of his health scare, he took the somber step of drafting his will during his hospital stay. Just weeks ago, the star underwent critical surgery after experiencing alarming symptoms related to his heart.

In December, leading up to Christmas, Max’s health took a turn for the worse. He had been feeling unwell for several days before recognizing that something was gravely wrong. A sleepover at his mother’s house culminated in a terrifying morning when he woke up to discover that his hands were blue and his arms appeared grey. After his mother insisted he seek medical attention, he initially returned from a GP visit with little reassurance. However, both she and a friend urged him to go straight to the hospital.

Describing his emotions during this frightening ordeal, Max admitted he was filled with anxiety as he was rushed into the medical facility. Once there, the doctors delivered disheartening news: he required a pacemaker due to issues at the bottom of his heart. This small device is crucial as it helps regulate the heart’s rhythm, sending electrical impulses to maintain a steady heartbeat.

Breaking the news to his girlfriend, Maisie Smith, was equally daunting. At the time, she was preparing to perform in a pantomime. Max poignantly reflected on how rapidly his life had changed, expressing that he never anticipated facing such dire circumstances at 36 years old. He experienced terrifying physical sensations, including tightness in his throat and difficulty breathing, leading him to fear that he might not survive.

During his hospital stay, Max felt so apprehensive that he penned his will in the notes app on his phone. He shared how the shock of his diagnosis made him confront his responsibilities to his loved ones, including his partner Maisie and his cherished nephews. The gravity of the situation became all too real when he experienced a significant drop in his heart rate, plummeting to just 26 beats per minute, a stark contrast to the normal range of 60 to 100 bpm. In that moment, he truly felt the panic of a life hanging in the balance.

After spending a week in the hospital, Max was finally scheduled for the much-anticipated pacemaker surgery, mere days before Christmas. Despite encountering complications from collapsed veins, the operation was successfully completed in about three hours. The first familiar face he saw post-surgery was that of Maisie, providing him with an emotional anchor during a turbulent time.

Now back home in Manchester, Max is focusing on his recovery and expressing gratitude for the support he has received. This challenging chapter has prompted him to reflect on life and love as he embraces a new, healthier path forward.
