New York Sees Surge in Reports of Mutilated Chickens and Pigs in Alleged Satanic Rituals and Sacrifices

Animal sacrifices have been increasing in Queens, New York, with disturbing reports of chickens, pigs, and rats being tortured and killed in religious rituals around Jamaica Bay, Sydtomarket.net reveals.

Over the past month, authorities have found at least nine injured animals or carcasses in federally managed areas, such as Spring Creek Park in Howard Beach and the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Broad Channel, according to the New York Post.

This surge includes five live pigs with partially severed ears, a nearly-dead baby rat tied with chicken bones, a freshly decapitated chicken head, a distressed live hen, and a dead dog with a broken neck.

Sloane Quealy, co-founder and president of Zion’s Mission Animal Rescue, voiced concern, stating that “the animal sacrifices are happening more frequently, and the perpetrators seem to feel it’s an open season.”

One pig discovered in July was found in a food-filled crate, emaciated, with a deep gash on its face, and covered in oils and spices. Kristen Latuga, who operates Brucie’s Angels animal sanctuary on Long Island, has taken in all five suffering pigs.

Some rescuers and local religious leaders believe these acts of cruelty might be connected to a Hindu sect that worships the goddess Kali and has practiced animal sacrifice around Jamaica Bay for decades. Acharya Arun Gossai of the Bhuvaneshwar Mandir temple criticized these actions, explaining that they misinterpret the scriptures, which call for conquering animalistic values, not actual animal sacrifice.

Jamaica Bay, sometimes referred to as the “Ganges” by locals, has traditionally been a site for religious offerings by Hindu Guyanese and Indo-Caribbean communities. Quealy and fellow rescuer Kim Fraser recently found piglets with their ears and tails cut off near Hindu deity statues and prayer flags. Other religious groups, such as Santeria and voodoo practitioners, have also used Jamaica Bay for similar rituals.

Aminta Kilawan-Narine, a Howard Beach resident and co-founder of the Hindu group Sadhana, highlighted that animal sacrifice is practiced across various faiths. Her group organizes clean-ups at Jamaica Bay where carcasses have been discovered.

While the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the right to animal sacrifice on religious grounds in 1993, New York State law deems aggravated animal cruelty a felony punishable by up to two years in prison. Despite this, the NYPD’s 106th Precinct, which covers Howard Beach, has not received any 911 calls reporting animal abuse.

John Di Leonardo, founder of Humane Long Island, noted that Jamaica Bay has become a “hotspot” for animal cruelty, with at least a dozen reports of animal sacrifice this year, compared to only a few last year. “This longstanding issue was previously underreported but is now resurfacing with full force,” he said.

Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Queens) described the situation as being “at a high point” this year and pledged to take action. “Cruelty to animals is a crime, and we cannot tolerate this,” she stated. “I will work with federal partners and local religious groups to address this issue immediately.”
