The Osmond Family Saga: Discovering the Talents of Donny and Marie’s Siblings

When you think of the Osmond family, it’s hard not to picture the iconic duo of Donny and Marie Osmond. However, there’s much more to this legendary lineage than just their fame. The Osmond clan consists of a total of nine siblings, expanding the narrative of talent within this musical family.

The Osmond brothers—Virl, Tom, Alan, Merrill, Wayne, Jay, Jimmy, along with Donny and Marie—were brought up by their devoted parents, Olive and George Osmond. Married in 1944, the couple’s partnership lasted until Olive’s passing in 2004, followed by George’s death in 2007.

While Donny and Marie captured the spotlight with their hit variety show “Donny & Marie,” the family’s musical journey began long before that.

Virl Osmond, the oldest brother, was born with a hearing impairment, which prevented him from performing like his siblings. Instead, he made significant contributions behind the scenes, serving as a photography enthusiast for family promotions. He is also a proud father of eight, sharing his life with wife Christopher Marie Carroll.

Then there’s Tom Osmond. Like Virl, Tom also faced hearing challenges, limiting his performances with The Osmonds. Happily, he has nine children—seven with his first wife and two with his second—though a tragedy struck when he lost one of his infants. Marie Osmond spoke about his resilience following major heart surgery in 2019, calling him a miracle.

Alan Osmond rose to fame as a vocalist in The Osmonds and served in the Army National Guard. He married Suzanne Pinegar in 1974, and the duo has eight children together. Despite battling multiple sclerosis, Alan continues to cheer on his siblings, attending events like the Las Vegas Walk of Stars.

Wayne Osmond showcased his musical versatility not only as a singer but also as a multi-instrumentalist, adept at everything from the violin to the drums. After marrying Kathlyn in 1974, they welcomed five children. Tragically, Wayne’s life was cut short when he passed away in January 2025, but his impact on music and spirituality lives on, as shared by brother Merrill.

Merrill Osmond is equally notable; he not only performed with The Osmonds but also founded the country spin-off, The Osmond Brothers. A two-time recipient of knighthood, Merrill leads a busy life with his six kids after marrying Mary Carlson in 1973.

Jay Osmond is remembered for his drumming prowess in the family band. After marrying Kandilyn Harris in 1987, he had three children, though his marriage ended in divorce.

And then there’s Donny Osmond—the face of The Osmonds and a cultural icon. From his teen idol days to winning “Dancing With the Stars” and thriving in Las Vegas, Donny has embraced family life with wife Debbie and their five children.

Marie Osmond, the sole daughter and youngest sibling, has carved out her own path. An accomplished singer, actress, and author, her career spans various entertainment fields. Since ending her Las Vegas residency with Donny, she continues to share her talents while nurturing her children and remembering her late son Michale Bryan.

Finally, the youngest of the bunch, Jimmy Osmond, has his own musical accolades, including six gold records. As the president of Osmond Entertainment and a proud father of four, Jimmy’s journey took a turn in late 2018 with a stroke, but with proper rehabilitation, he’s on the mend.

The Osmond family transcends music; their legacy is rooted in talent, love, and resilience that continues to inspire fans across generations.
