Ruth Langsford Leads Alzheimer’s Awareness Campaign with ITV
December 23, 2024 – In a heartfelt initiative this holiday season, Ruth Langsford has partnered with ITV and the Alzheimer’s Society to promote awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. The campaign, which she will voice, runs from December 23 through New Year’s Eve. Amid these efforts, Langsford’s family is facing personal challenges as her mother, Joan, is currently hospitalized after a fall. While Ruth has reassured her followers about Joan’s condition, the likelihood of her returning home for Christmas seems to be fading.
Ruth shared her sentiments regarding the campaign, stating, “Christmas should be a joyous time filled with loved ones, laughter, and cherished memories. Unfortunately, for about one million individuals in the UK, dementia can drain away these precious moments.”
The campaign aims to reach ITV viewers with important messages during programming breaks, raising much-needed awareness about the impact of dementia and the challenges that comes with it. Langsford, who has been an advocate for the Alzheimer’s Society, has a deeply personal connection to this cause; her father, Dennis, passed away in 2012 after being diagnosed with dementia, and her mother lives with the illness as well.
Ruth reflected on the emotional aspect of the holiday season, acknowledging the difficulties faced by families dealing with dementia. “Having lost my dad Dennis and watching my mum Joan live with dementia, I understand how this time of year can intensify feelings of heartbreak and grief, along with the added responsibilities of caregiving,” she expressed.
As the campaign progresses, she emphasizes the importance of conversations about dementia, given that statistics show one in three people born today may develop the condition. “This is a crucial time to bring these discussions into the open,” she stated.
Ruth encouraged viewers not to be surprised if they notice unusual audio and visuals during holiday programming on ITV. She urges families to engage with the messages delivered during the campaign.
Langsford’s efforts this Christmas demonstrate her commitment to raising awareness and supporting families navigating the challenges of dementia.
