Seal Opens Up About Parenting: Admits to Making Mistakes, Not Always the Ideal Father

In a candid interview, Seal reflected on his journey as a father to the children he shares with ex-wife Heidi Klum, acknowledging that he has made his fair share of mistakes. As the “Crazy” singer approaches the 2025 Super Bowl, he shared his thoughts with People, expressing gratitude for how his children have grown into remarkable individuals.

“Luckily, my kids, or rather, the sons and daughters that I raised, they understand that I tried my best,” Seal, 61, explained. “I wasn’t perfect, but I put in the effort.” He and Heidi, 51, are parents to son Henry, 19, son Johan, 18, and daughter Lou, 15. Additionally, Seal adopted Heidi’s daughter Leni in 2009 when she was just five years old.

The artist took a moment to appreciate the close relationships he’s formed with his teenagers. “You eventually end up with these incredible friends with whom you can have real conversations,” he remarked. “As they mature, they start to recognize that it’s not about the mistakes I made; it’s about whether I truly tried my best as a parent.”

Seal emphasized the challenges of parenthood, calling it the most demanding job in the world. “It’s the one role where making mistakes seems unavoidable,” he noted. “But in reality, what matters to them is that you always put in the effort.”

The Grammy winner’s relationship with his children has greatly evolved since their younger years, especially with Leni, who has ventured into modeling. Seal warmly reminisced about their bond. “From the moment I met your mother, I felt a connection with Leni. It has always been that way,” he shared previously.

In a touching September 2023 Instagram tribute, Seal expressed gratitude for Leni’s impact on his life, writing, “In NY with the young woman who changed my life for the better 19 years ago. Thank you, Leni, for making me a better person. Love you, — papa.”

Recently, Seal also spoke proudly of Henry, who made his runway debut at Paris Fashion Week. Seal conveyed unwavering support for whatever path his children choose, saying, “I am proud of anything they do. Even if Henry were sweeping the streets and passionate about it, I’d be just as proud as if he were walking down a catwalk. What matters is his happiness.”

The singer and Heidi Klum were married in May 2005 and finalized their divorce in 2014, but their commitment to parenting remains steadfast.
