Elton John is navigating a “slow” recovery from a severe eye infection that has led to partial blindness. The 77-year-old music legend shared the news on Instagram, revealing that the infection has significantly impacted his vision in one eye. He described the healing process as “extremely slow” and indicated that it will take time before he regains full sight.
John, who has been recuperating quietly at home over the summer, expressed optimism about his progress and thanked his medical team and family for their care and support. He also mentioned his gratitude for their assistance during this challenging period.
This update comes just days before the premiere of John’s documentary, *Elton John: Never Too Late*, which will be released on Disney+. The film chronicles his 49th and final Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour and reflects on his illustrious 50-year career in music.
John’s health issues have been a topic of concern recently. He was previously spotted urinating into a bottle in a shoe store in France, which raised questions about his condition. It was unclear whether this urgency was related to a prostate issue or another health problem.
Over recent years, John has faced multiple medical challenges, including pneumonia, persistent hip and knee issues, prostate cancer, and type 2 diabetes. He also had a pacemaker installed following a heart problem in 1999. Last year, he struggled to walk onto the stage at Glastonbury and has had to use a wheelchair and cane at times. He also underwent hip surgery in 2021 and was briefly hospitalized after a fall at home last summer.
John’s weight has fluctuated significantly, with a notable gain of 40 pounds last year, which raised concerns about his health. He has since lost the weight and has worked hard on managing his health, joking about his lifelong battle with weight fluctuations and his efforts during lockdown to address it.
Despite these health setbacks, John remains focused on his recovery and is committed to his ongoing projects, including his upcoming documentary.
