Strictly Come Dancing marks 20th anniversary with new Icons Week format

In a thrilling update for fans of Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC has announced the introduction of Icons Week as part of its celebratory 20th anniversary format overhaul. This exciting news was shared by host Janette Manrara on the show’s spin-off, It Takes Two, on October 9, and follows the recent success of Movie Week, where contestants honored cinematic legends.

Icons Week, set to premiere on Saturday, November 2, will see couples paying tribute to some of music’s most iconic figures from various eras. The BBC revealed plans for this new themed week, stating: “In this brand-new special week, which will be part of this series and beyond, the remaining couples will take to the ballroom floor to celebrate music icons. Our Strictly Come Dancing stars will pay homage to the most recognizable and influential people in the music industry.”

Audiences can look forward to seeing contestants perform dances to tracks from their musical heroes, with specific icons, dances, and songs to be unveiled soon. Icons Week will firmly establish itself alongside other beloved themes like Movie Week, Musicals Week, Blackpool, and Halloween.

To kick off this special week, viewers can expect a spectacular group performance led by Johannes Radebe during the Sunday night results show, featuring an electrifying medley of Beyoncé hits. With promises of dazzling cowboy hats and dynamic choreography, Johannes is set to channel his inner Sasha Fierce in this dazzling routine.

As the countdown to Icons Week begins, fans are left wondering what music selections and performances will be showcased. What do you think about this new addition to the Strictly lineup? What song would you want to dance to?
