Tom Dean has made headlines as the first celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing during the results show aired tonight. After a weekend filled with dance performances, it culminated in the season’s first elimination.
The 24-year-old dancer, alongside his partner Nadiya Bychkova, faced off against Toyah Willcox and Neil Jones in a dance-off. Ultimately, the judges decided to send Tom and Nadiya home.
Both pairs had the opportunity to showcase their routines a second time. Tom and Nadiya performed the lively Cha Cha to the classic tune “Boogie Wonderland” by Earth, while Toyah and Neil impressed the judges with their Jive to “Nutbush City Limits” by Ike & Tina Turner.
Following the performances, the judges cast their votes. Craig Revel Horwood opted to save Toyah and Neil, a choice echoed by Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke.
With the judges’ votes tallied, it all came down to head judge Shirley Ballas, who also chose to save Toyah and Neil. Reflecting on his experience, Tom remarked, “I’ve had the best time the last few weeks, and working with Nadiya has been amazing. I wish I could have danced more and continued longer. It’s been so much fun, and I’m sure we’ll still enjoy plenty of brunch outings together.”
Nadiya praised Tom, stating, “Getting to know him has been fantastic. He’s not just a three-time Olympic champion; he’s a true gentleman who has shown me the value of hard work. Sometimes, to win this show, it’s not about taking home the trophy, and I feel that way this year.”
Fans were quick to express their disappointment over Tom and Nadiya’s exit on social media, with many feeling that the judges made an unjust call. One viewer stated, “I can’t believe they saved Toyah over Tom; it was infuriating.” Another echoed the sentiment, saying, “Tom did not deserve to go home first—such a surprise and wrong choice by the judges.” However, some viewers supported the decision, acknowledging Toyah’s performance and expressing satisfaction with her continued journey on the show.
