‘Watson’ Trailer Reveals Morris Chestnut as a Twisted John Watson

Morris Chestnut Takes on a New Role as John Watson in CBS Drama Watson

Morris Chestnut is stepping into the iconic shoes of John Watson in the upcoming CBS series, Watson, which introduces a refreshing take on the beloved character from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s timeless tales. On November 27, the network unveiled the official trailer during the Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions NFL Thanksgiving game, showcasing a gripping new angle that could redefine medical dramas.

In a captivating voiceover, Chestnut’s character delves into a philosophical reflection about identity, stating, “The story of our lives, who we are, and where we came from is written inside of us before we are ever born. But everything has its breaking point.” His narrative hints at a deeper, investigative approach to medicine.

While Watson continues his practice in the medical field, the show promises to explore unconventional methods. “Everyone who comes into this clinic is a mystery. Solve a mystery, save a life,” Watson asserts to his team. “Our patients don’t just need doctors. They need detectives.”

Set six months after the demise of Sherlock Holmes at the hands of the infamous James Moriarty, this new series finds Watson grappling with the grief of losing his partner while simultaneously leading a clinic that specializes in rare disorders. The synopsis highlights that Watson’s past isn’t entirely behind him, as remnants of his old life intertwine with his current mission, promising to engage audiences with a unique narrative blend.

In addition to Chestnut, the cast features Eve Harlow as Ingrid, a brilliant neurologist with a troubled history, and Peter Mark Kendall, who portrays twin brothers specializing in infectious diseases and functional medicine. Ritchie Coster plays the role of Shinwell, Watson’s former criminal ally, and Rochelle Aytes appears as Watson’s ex-wife, Mary.

This modern rendition of Watson not only challenges traditional medical drama tropes but also emphasizes rule-breaking and innovative thinking. The trailer teases notable lines, including a philosophy that suggests, “We eliminate the impossible, and whatever remains—however improbable—must be the truth.”

Fans of the Sherlock Holmes franchise may recall the previous CBS adaptation, Elementary, which featured Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson. Premiering on January 26 after the AFC Championship Game, Watson will occupy its regular slot on February 16, with episodes available for streaming on Paramount+ the following day.

As this series approaches its debut, it looks to captivate viewers with a blend of mystery and medical intrigue, creating an enticing new chapter in the legacy of John Watson.
