Zelensky: Latest US Trip Preserves Bipartisan Support for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed his recent trip to the United States as a significant achievement, placing a strong emphasis on the bipartisan nature of his discussions, during an interview on Sunday.

When asked about his key accomplishment from the visit, Zelensky told Fox News Live, “I think that we preserved bipartisan support for Ukraine.”

While he refrained from indicating whether he secured any commitments regarding authorization for long-range weapons to target deeper into Russia, he highlighted the critical need for U.S. approval. Zelensky insisted on the profound influence of the U.S. over its allies’ policies regarding military support.

“We need it very much,” he remarked about the authorization. He mentioned prior discussions with teams from both France and the United Kingdom, underlining the role of the United States as a pivotal supporter and decision-maker in the situation.

“All these European nations, our allies, are excellent, but they are acutely aware of who the primary decision-maker is,” Zelensky stated, referring specifically to Washington.

During his stay in the U.S. last week for the United Nations General Assembly, Zelensky met with President Biden and Vice President Harris on Thursday at the White House. On that same day, the administration announced nearly $8 billion in military assistance for Ukraine.

On Friday, Zelensky sat down with former President Trump, who has often expressed skepticism about U.S. support for Ukraine.

Ahead of their meeting at Trump Tower in New York City, both men spoke briefly to the press, with Trump praising his rapport with both Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He suggested he might be able to facilitate a swift resolution to the conflict.

“We’re going to engage both parties to reach a settlement,” Trump told reporters alongside Zelensky. “I have an excellent relationship with President Putin, and I believe that if we prevail, we can quickly resolve this issue.”

Zelensky interjected, expressing hope for improved relations.

“Oh, I see,” Trump responded. “But it takes two to tango. I’m looking forward to a productive meeting today, and the fact that we’re sitting here together is a promising indication.”
