Viewers tuning in were left in disbelief upon hearing the news that Hoda Kotb will be stepping away from Today early next year. Even her fellow cohosts were taken aback by the announcement. Craig Melvin shared his reactions on Instagram, expressing his admiration for Hoda. “Hoda Kotb is truly one of a kind. She radiates positivity and kindness. Like everyone else, I was surprised by her decision to move on, but I am confident her next chapter will be even more extraordinary,” Craig, 45, wrote on September 26. “I love you, my friend. This is a tough moment for the Today family, but fantastic times are ahead for Hope and Haley.”

Hoda, who is 60, revealed her decision during an emotional segment on Today, surrounded by her cohosts. Tears filled the studio as she explained her desire to dedicate more time to her daughters, Haley and Hope.

“Having my children later in life makes me realize they deserve a bigger slice of my time pie than I currently provide,” Hoda shared. “Time is limited, and this decision is the most difficult I’ve ever made.” Jenna Bush Hager could barely hold back her tears as she recounted the initial conversation with Hoda. “When she shared the news just a couple of days ago, my gut reaction was sheer disbelief. I said, ‘No, you can’t leave! What we have here is special,’” the former first daughter recalled. “The connection we share is magical and powerful.”

Savannah Guthrie also expressed her deep emotions regarding Hoda’s announcement. “Honestly, it’s hard for any of us to even envision this place without you. We love you so much, and we don’t want you to go. Still, I’m incredibly proud of you, my friend. It takes real courage to leave while at the top and to pursue bigger dreams,” she said. “This isn’t the end. I’ll be popping by your home, like a true friend. We’re here for you forever,” Jenna chimed in.

Hoda reassured her audience that while she will be parting ways with Today in early 2025, she will continue to be affiliated with the NBC family. Fans expressed their sadness about her departure but also their excitement for her future endeavors. “I’m shocked but thrilled for her and her children! I hope they bring Craig Melvin on board in her place! Love him! Poor Jenna!” one viewer commented on Today’s official Instagram page, while another added, “Going to miss you! I can’t wait to see all the incredible opportunities that await our wonderful Hoda. You can achieve anything!”
