Chris Webber Takes a Jab at Dwyane Wade’s New Statue
In a lighthearted moment caught on camera, Chris Webber didn’t hold back while sharing his thoughts on Dwyane Wade’s freshly unveiled statue in Miami. The former NBA star was approached by reporters at LAX and didn’t shy away from roasting the likeness of Wade, claiming it looked strikingly similar to Morpheus, the iconic character played by Laurence Fishburne in “The Matrix.”
Webber humorously suggested that the statue also bore a resemblance to Chris Rock’s character Pookie from “New Jack City.” He added with a chuckle that it reminded him of the lead singer from “The Five Heartbeats” during a performance. While he poked fun at the sculpture, Webber made it clear that his jabs were all in good spirit and not aimed at Wade himself. In fact, he regards Dwyane as one of the greatest shooting guards in basketball history, placing him third behind legends Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
Webber concluded with a cheeky piece of advice for statue creators, suggesting they spend more time with their subjects to capture their true essence rather than relying solely on photographs. So, if Marquette University is considering its own tribute to Wade in the future, they might want to take note of Webber’s tips.
