Nicole Kidman Reflects on Her Mother’s Heartfelt Final Words

Nicole Kidman is opening her heart about the impactful last words her mother shared with her before she passed away. The Oscar-winning actress recently spoke on CBS Sunday Morning about the poignant moment she experienced with her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, who died in September. During the interview, Kidman, now 57, recalled, “The last thing my mom said to me, which I didn’t realize would be the last, was, ‘Maybe wait a minute because I think you just need to take care of yourself right now, Nicky.’” This touching sentiment is something Kidman has embraced, emphasizing the importance of self-care, particularly for women.

In addition to her mother’s final words, Kidman revealed a similar memory concerning her grandmother, whose last message was simply, “Be happy.” She feels this advice resonates even more now as a devoted mother to her four children. Kidman shares two children, Isabella and Connor, with ex-husband Tom Cruise, and has two younger daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, with her current husband, Keith Urban. Reflecting on her role as a mother, Kidman stated, “I want to be around for a long time for my girls, who are amazing.”

News of Janelle Ann Kidman’s passing reached Kidman during the Venice International Film Festival, where she had just won the Best Actress award for her role in Babygirl. In a statement delivered during the ceremony, Kidman expressed her shock at the loss, saying, “I am in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me, and she made me.” She further conveyed her gratitude for the love and support she and her family received following their loss.

Months after her mother’s passing, Kidman reflected on the profound impact of her absence, admitting to The Hollywood Reporter that she still grapples with grief. “It’s a hard road. I’m hanging in there,” she shared candidly. The bittersweet nature of her successes feels particularly heavy without her mother’s support, as she poignantly remarked, “I wish my mama was here.” It’s a sentiment that underscores the deep bond they shared and the lasting influence her mother continues to have on her life and career.
