Indian Textile Ministry Encourages Uniqlo to Invest in PM MITRA Parks

India’s textile ministry is making a compelling case for Uniqlo to enhance its investment in the Prime Minister’s Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks. In a recent dialogue involving Uniqlo officials and textiles minister Giriraj Singh, the ministry emphasized the brand’s potential role in bolstering cotton production and product quality in India.

Uniqlo, a leading Japanese apparel company, has shown a strong interest in improving cotton farming capabilities within the country. The PM MITRA Parks are designed as fully operational ecosystems that provide a build-to-suit model, making it easier for businesses to establish sustainable and effective manufacturing processes.

During the meeting, the ministry also encouraged Uniqlo to expand its research and development into emerging natural fibers, notably milkweed fiber, aligning with India’s broader sustainability initiatives. The ministry reiterated its support for Uniqlo’s request for land to scale its pilot project focused on cotton production, highlighting a collaborative approach toward enhancing India’s textile industry.
