The beloved series Call the Midwife has officially announced the release date for its highly anticipated Series 14. Following the conclusion of filming last month, fans are in for a treat with an annual Christmas special ahead of the new season. This year, the special will be unique as it is divided into two parts, the first airing on Christmas Day and the second on Boxing Day. Creator and writer Heidi Thomas expressed excitement about the double feature, stating, “Who doesn’t love finding an extra, unexpected present underneath the Christmas tree? When I was asked to write a two-part Christmas special for 2024, I couldn’t resist!”
After the two-part special wraps up, the premiere of Call the Midwife Series 14 is set for Sunday, January 5, at 8pm on BBC One. In a typical fashion for the show, the new series will debut shortly after the Christmas festivities. The production team announced that filming for the upcoming series wrapped in November, sharing a photo of actors Stephen McGann (Dr Turner) and Natalie Quarry (Nurse Clifford) holding a clapperboard. They hinted that viewers might want tissues on hand, referring to their storyline as “VERY emotional.”
The series has been renewed through 2026, with confirmation that Series 15 is on the way. Executive producer Dame Pippa Harris commented on the show’s longevity, calling it a tremendous achievement and praising the dedication of the cast and crew. Heidi Thomas shared her enthusiasm for the production team, describing them as a family that is excited to explore the 1970s.
With the return of this iconic show, fans are eager to tune in for both the Christmas special and the new series. Are you ready for more stories from Nonnatus House?
