Avila claims that, despite being advised by 32 cancer specialists to undergo chemotherapy and radiation, the 60-year-old refused their recommendations. She now believes her cancer-free status is due to a holistic treatment regimen led by a team she assembled personally.

In an interview with Australian Women’s Weekly, Macpherson revealed her diagnosis of HER2-positive estrogen-receptive intraductal carcinoma, which was identified after a lumpectomy. Initially, doctors suggested a mastectomy accompanied by radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and reconstructive surgery. However, she opted for a holistic approach, which she describes as an “intuitive, heart-led” decision.

Her treatment team included a primary care doctor, a naturopath, a holistic dentist, an osteopath, a chiropractor, and two therapists. She regularly consulted them at a residence she rented in Phoenix, Arizona.

Among her advisers was Dr. Zach Bush, a former internal medicine doctor who is critical of chemotherapy and emphasizes a holistic view of health. Macpherson has spoken highly of his influence, particularly regarding the connection between gut health and overall wellbeing.

Additionally, Dr. Sara Siso, known for her plant-based healing methods, played a significant role. Siso claimed to have cured her own cervical cancer through detox programs after witnessing the adverse effects of conventional treatments on her sister.

Dr. Simoné Laubscher, a functional nutritionist and naturopath, also contributed to Macpherson’s treatment plan. She reported successfully treating her breast cancer using her vegan supplements.

Macpherson’s decision to forego traditional treatments was met with skepticism by many, but she stands by her choice, which she believes addressed both emotional and physical aspects of her illness.
