Dave Portnoy has formally announced his departure from the “BFFs” podcast amid a whirlwind of drama involving Zach Bryan, the former partner of co-host Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia. During an episode of “The Unnamed Show” on November 14, Portnoy expressed his disinterest in the podcast’s current direction. He stated, “The subjects don’t interest me at all. I’m just ripping apart 18-year-olds, who I don’t even know.”
Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, highlighted that his involvement with the show had run its course. The podcast originally launched in 2020 with Portnoy and Josh Richards before LaPaglia joined the duo in 2021. He reflected positively on his time with “BFFs,” noting its success and his desire to embark on new projects. “It certainly accomplished what I wanted to accomplish when we started it. Josh and Bri will continue it, but it’s time for me to try the next thing,” he said.
While a specific date for Portnoy’s final episode hasn’t been revealed, he confirmed he would stay on until the year’s end. The announcement comes on the heels of a recent podcast episode where LaPaglia shared her emotional turmoil regarding her breakup with country star Bryan. Portnoy had previously hinted at leaving, citing his age and the podcast’s focus on youthful drama as factors for his decision.
Things escalated further when LaPaglia expressed her desire to discuss an alleged $12 million non-disclosure agreement that Bryan purportedly wanted her to sign. Sources indicated that LaPaglia felt blindsided by Bryan’s actions during their relationship, as rumors surfaced about him exploring dating options while they were still together.
In a turn of events, Portnoy did not hold back his disdain for Bryan, having previously released two diss tracks aimed at the singer. He went so far as to label Bryan as a “scumbag,” urging listeners to remove his music from their devices. As tensions rise in the aftermath of the breakup, Portnoy’s exit marks a significant change for the “BFFs” podcast, promising a new direction for its remaining hosts.
