Eric Roberts Expresses Sadness Over Estrangement from Daughter Emma Amid Julia Roberts Feud

Eric Roberts, the veteran actor and brother of Julia Roberts, has expressed profound sadness over his estrangement from his daughter, Emma Roberts. In a candid conversation on the Inside of You podcast, Eric, now 68, revealed the emotional toll this fractured relationship has taken on him, especially following the release of his recent memoir, Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far.

During the interview, when asked about the most challenging period in his life, Eric did not hesitate. He shared, “Probably the loss of relationship with my daughter.” He elaborated, saying that while there isn’t a specific pain associated with their distance, it does create a persistent sadness stemming from misunderstandings that may linger indefinitely.

Eric’s memoir touches on the complexities of his relationship with Emma, who is well-known for her starring roles. He described the feelings of inadequacy that surfaced at the time of her birth in 1991 with ex-partner Kelly Cunningham. “I loved my little daughter with the strength of Hercules, despite my own weaknesses,” he noted, admitting that adjusting to fatherhood was overwhelming. He emphasized that he never saw himself as a fit father figure, contrasting it with Emma’s successful journey into motherhood, particularly with her own son, Rhodes.

The actor also discussed the impact of his grandchildren on his perspective regarding his relationship with Emma. The arrival of his granddaughters has sparked a renewed sense of acceptance within him, especially with the eldest, whom he mentioned bears a striking resemblance to Emma. This resemblance only deepens his feelings of regret about what he has lost.

Compounding the familial turmoil, Eric’s memoir has reopened old wounds in the ongoing feud with his sister, Julia Roberts. He faced criticism in his book regarding her acting, provoking a renewed examination of their strained sibling dynamic. Reflecting on the process of writing about his relationship with Emma, he admitted, “To write it at all was the hardest thing to write.”

As Eric navigates these emotional landscapes, he confronts the realities of family ties and the often-painful legacies they leave behind. This latest revelation has not only shed light on his personal struggles but also reignited conversations about the Roberts family’s complicated relationships.
