FBI Seizes Parachute Linked to D.B. Cooper Hijacking Found in North Carolina

Is the D.B. Cooper Enigma Being Solved? FBI Takes Control of Parachute Tied to Notorious Hijacking

A startling new breakthrough may finally shed light on the D.B. Cooper mystery, which has perplexed investigators for more than five decades. Recently, RadarOnline.com reported that a parachute believed to have been used by the enigmatic hijacker during his audacious escape with $200,000 has reportedly been uncovered, marking a pivotal moment in this long-standing case.

For those unfamiliar, the saga of D.B. Cooper began in 1971 when an unidentified man hijacked Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305. After collecting a ransom, he infamously parachuted out of the aircraft and disappeared without a trace. The FBI, having pursued numerous leads over the decades, decided to close the case in 2016, only to reignite it with this new evidence.

According to reports, the renewed interest follows an approach made by the descendants of Richard Floyd McCoy II, a man often speculated to be Cooper, to YouTuber and skydiver Dan Gryder. In 2020, McCoy’s children shared compelling information that led Gryder to the family’s North Carolina property.

During a visit in July 2022, Gryder discovered a modified military parachute harness that he believes could serve as a crucial link to Cooper. He described the find as “one in a billion,” potentially heralding the close of a cold case that has haunted law enforcement for decades.

This new piece of the puzzle is linked to McCoy, who was arrested for a similar hijacking just a year after the Cooper incident. The intrigue surrounding whether McCoy could indeed be Cooper has remained rife for years, yet no definitive proof has been established until now.

After the passing of their mother, Karen McCoy, her children finally felt able to discuss the family’s connection to the infamous case. They invited Gryder to their home, where the parachute was found tucked away with other family belongings.

Gryder, who has dedicated years to investigating the D.B. Cooper case, discussed his discoveries in a series of YouTube videos. The FBI reportedly took notice of his findings and reached out to examine the parachute and related evidence, marking their first involvement since closing the case in 2016.

In September 2023, Gryder and one of McCoy’s children met with FBI agents, who subsequently confiscated the parachute and a skydiving logbook that appears to correlate with the hijackings in question. The family believes these findings strongly suggest their father was behind the D.B. Cooper heist.

A month later, an FBI agent contacted the McCoy family to conduct a thorough search of their North Carolina property, where the parachute was discovered. The focus of the investigation now rests on unique modifications to the parachute, with detailed documentation by Earl Cossey, the parachute supplier during the 1971 hijacking, indicating they could tie the equipment back to the event.

As developments unfold, the FBI has remained tight-lipped regarding the current status of the investigation. Nevertheless, the family waits anxiously for clarity, hoping to unravel the secret that has lingered in the shadows for far too long.
