Halsey’s Ongoing Health Struggles: What You Need to Know
Halsey, the acclaimed singer-songwriter, has been in the news recently due to her ongoing health challenges highlighted by a recent hospital visit. The artist, who prefers she/they pronouns, opened up about her medical issues in a heartfelt Instagram post, detailing her experiences during and after her first pregnancy. Halsey welcomed her son, Ender Ridley Aydin, with Alev Aydin on July 14, 2021. In her 2022 update, she described her daily battles with dislocations and fatigue, which she said were intensified by her pregnancy. At that time, she underwent surgery on her hand due to persistent dislocation of her fingers, sharing, “My mum’s got to bathe me, dress me. Because I just physically can’t do it myself.”
The singer has faced numerous health battles, including several hospitalizations for anaphylaxis throughout 2022. In an additional post that year, Halsey revealed her frequent visits to medical facilities, stating, “I was hospitalized for anaphylaxis a few times and had some other stuff going on.” Following her health struggles, she received formal diagnoses for several conditions, including Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, and POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). Halsey disclosed that after consulting countless doctors, these diagnoses were confirmed. She expressed concern over the possibility of another autoimmune condition complicating her condition.
In conjunction with her ongoing autoimmune disorders, Halsey has also had to deal with endometriosis. She was hospitalized for this condition in 2022 and had previously undergone surgery in 2017 to remove excess tissue from her uterus. Nearly five years later, she faced another hospitalization linked to her endometriosis while managing her autoimmune conditions. After sharing recovery updates on social media, she mentioned, “But my body is putting up a strong protest. And ultimately demanding that I slow down or stop for real this time.”
In June, Halsey reflected on her health challenges, feeling “lucky to be alive,” especially following some near-fatal incidents related to lupus. Upon releasing her new single “The End,” she included lyrics about her health struggles, leading to speculation among fans about her condition. Shortly after, she confirmed a diagnosis of lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder, both of which she is managing or has kept in remission. She expressed gratitude for the medical support she has received, stating, “After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors.”
Halsey’s health journey has profoundly impacted her mental well-being. In an interview, she candidly discussed how her ailments have made her feel unrecognizable, struggling with her self-image during periods of illness. Recently, Halsey faced another health scare, being hospitalized due to a seizure on September 26. She shared a glimpse of her hospital stay on social media, adding a touch of humor to the situation as she celebrated Bi Visibility Day.
As Halsey continues to navigate her complex health landscape, her resilience and openness concerning her experiences provide a powerful reminder of the human struggles beneath the glitz of fame. With a strong support system and a desire to return to performing, she keeps her fans informed and remains hopeful for the future.
