Nicholas Alexander Chavez Reflects on His ‘General Hospital’ Audition Journey to Stardom

Nicholas Alexander Chavez recently opened up about his pivotal audition for the ABC soap opera General Hospital, which marked the beginning of his professional acting career. At just 25 years old, Chavez has already made waves playing Spencer Cassadine on the long-running series, and he recently portrayed Lyle Menendez in Netflix’s Monsters.

During the pandemic, Chavez was working in Florida, selling cars and life insurance, when he stumbled upon the audition opportunity for General Hospital. “I was still getting auditions, and I caught this one for General Hospital,” he shared. “I decided to give it my all.”

He recorded a self-tape that landed him his first significant callback in Los Angeles. “I arrived, and I was staying at a hotel, memorizing my lines,” he recalled. “The day of the audition came, and I found myself in a room filled with 20 incredibly handsome guys. It was intimidating.”

To calm his nerves, he focused on being himself. “I thought, ‘I’m just going to bring everything I have to this moment. If I have to go back to selling cars afterwards, at least I can say I gave it my best shot,’” he explained.

The very next day, Chavez received a life-changing call. “They told me not to fly back to Florida; basically, it was a message saying, ‘You start on Monday.’”

This experience marks a significant chapter in Chavez’s career, showcasing his determination and proving that dreams can come true, even amidst uncertain times.
