PQ Acquires Sibelco’s Specialty Silicate Business in Sweden

PQ is set to enhance its presence in the Nordic region by acquiring the specialty silicate business of Sibelco Group, currently operating at its Lödöse plant in Sweden. This strategic move, announced on December 10, 2024, aims to broaden PQ’s portfolio of sodium and potassium silicates, which are crucial for industries such as mining, construction, and pulp and paper.

Al Beninati, PQ’s CEO, expressed optimism about the acquisition, highlighting the long-standing success of Sibelco’s silicate operations in Sweden. Beninati stated, “This acquisition allows PQ to expand our sodium and potassium silicate offerings not only to the Nordic markets but also enables us to continue delivering high-quality products, building on our 70-plus years of experience in the region.”

The completion of this acquisition hinges on standard regulatory approvals, with expectations for finalization in early 2025. PQ’s commitment to enhancing its product array aligns with emerging market needs and positions the company for future growth in the region’s specialty silicate sector.
