Premiere Looks by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo Honor the Original Wizard of Oz Film

The recent premieres for the highly anticipated film adaptation of the Broadway hit “Wicked” have sparked a flurry of excitement, especially with the cast’s clever nods to the beloved classic “The Wizard of Oz.” As fans gear up for the movie’s release on November 22, the red carpet looks from stars like Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have been making headlines.

Ariana Grande, who embodies Glinda the Good Witch, has consistently dazzled in her character’s signature pink shades at all three premieres held across Australia, Los Angeles, and Mexico City. Meanwhile, Cynthia Erivo, stepping into the role of Elphaba, paid heartfelt tribute to her character by donning black and deep emerald green attire.

At the Los Angeles premiere, Ariana stole the show in a custom pink-and-white gingham dress designed by Thom Browne, a clear homage to Judy Garland’s iconic blue-and-white gingham dress from the 1939 classic. Jonathan Bailey, portraying Fiyero, made waves with a striking red poppy on his shirt, cleverly referencing the poppy field scene from “The Wizard of Oz” and matching slippers reminiscent of Dorothy’s memorable footwear.

Michelle Yeoh also made a statement with her short blonde hairstyle, echoing Madame Morrible’s icy look. Cynthia added an eye-catching emerald necklace to honor the Emerald City, while Ariana’s makeup was transformed to reflect Glinda’s ethereal charm. She shared in a behind-the-scenes video how her new role has reshaped her beauty standards, shifting from heavy makeup to a more natural, warm appearance, emphasizing cat-shaped lashes.

In a dazzling homage to Dorothy’s famed red slippers, Ariana flaunted a pair covered in 4,000 Swarovski crystals, recalling the original story where they were actually silver, as penned by L. Frank Baum. Jeff Goldblum, who portrays the Wizard, complemented the theme with his striking emerald green nails.

Notably, the carpet at the Australia premiere was a vibrant yellow, echoing the iconic yellow brick road, while Ethan Slater embraced the emerald green motif with a chic velvet suit. Jonathan also celebrated his character’s connection to nature by wearing yellow at the same premiere.

Jeff further embraced his character’s essence with a color choice reminiscent of Oz, and Ethan, who plays Boq, opted for hues that evoke the Tin Man. Cynthia made a whimsical statement with a lion-themed choker, connecting her look to the beloved characters.

As the excitement builds ahead of “Wicked’s” release, fans are eagerly encouraged to share their thoughts on these red carpet moments and any other fascinating details they’ve spotted during the premieres.
