Richard Simmons Laid to Rest in Iconic Workout Gear
In a touching tribute, Richard Simmons was laid to rest on Saturday, October 5, in his signature workout attire. The beloved fitness guru’s funeral took place at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, where family and friends gathered to celebrate his life.
During the ceremony, Simmons’ brother, Lenny, delivered an emotional speech, drawing a parallel between Richard and Superman. He remarked, “Just like Clark Kent, underneath the beautiful clothing he wore, Richard is in a tank top and shorts.” Lenny explained the family’s decision to honor Richard’s legacy by dressing him in the vibrant outfit that had become synonymous with his persona. “We believe God has a new plan for him, and we want him to be in his normal costume to help the saints and angels get into shape,” he said, adding, “Even though he is not physically here, Richard Simmons will always be sweating with the Holies.”
The funeral took place at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles. Richard’s passing came after a tragic incident in his home, where he was discovered with significant injuries, including cuts and bruises, attributed to a fatal accident. Just before his death, Richard had shared that he never viewed himself as a celebrity. “I don’t hear the word legend; I never thought of myself as a celebrity,” he said, expressing his more introverted nature.
In a chilling report released earlier, it was revealed that Richard was found deceased the day prior to his 76th birthday. He sustained “blunt traumatic injuries” from a ground-level fall at his home in Hollywood Hills. The medical examiner noted he experienced a bout of dizziness and collapsed, but shockingly, he had declined medical assistance to spend his birthday at home, intending to seek help the following day.
Richard Simmons, known for his vibrant personality and impact on the fitness world, will be remembered not just for his contributions to health and wellness, but also for the joy he brought to countless individuals. His legacy lives on through those who loved him and the memories he created.
