Robbie Williams’ desire for revenge against Take That’s Gary Barlow

Robbie Williams Reflects on Tensions with Take That’s Gary Barlow

On November 16, 2024, singer Robbie Williams opened up about his tumultuous relationship with Take That bandmate Gary Barlow. During a feature in the BBC documentary “Boybands Forever,” Robbie, who achieved fame alongside Barlow, Jason Orange, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald in the 1990s, discussed the complexities of their friendship.

Robbie’s departure from Take That in 1995 marked a significant moment in pop history. In a candid revelation through his 2023 Netflix documentary, “Robbie Williams: Raw. Honest. Real,” he admitted to harboring strong resentments toward Gary. “I disliked Gary the most because he was the one that was supposed to have everything, and I wanted to make him pay. I was vengeful,” Robbie confessed, illustrating the intensity of his feelings.

Describing Gary as “cold,” Robbie expressed that he perceived the band as being heavily centered around Barlow, which fueled his jealousy. “I was going home thinking this is weird and uncomfortable. It’s Lord of the Flies stuff,” he reflected.

However, time has brought a change of heart. Robbie has since expressed remorse for the way he treated Gary in the past. “I’m sorry that I treated Gary like that,” he acknowledged in the documentary, seeking to mend their rocky history.

The reconciliation between the two has been notable. They collaborated on the single “Shame” in 2010 and later reunited to release the album “Progress” and embark on a successful tour. Although Take That now operates as a trio after Robbie’s solo ventures and Jason Orange’s departure, the bond between Robbie and Gary appears to have strengthened through their shared experiences.

The documentary “Boybands at the BBC” airs at 8:15 PM on BBC Two, promising more insights into the lives of boyband icons. How do you feel about the relationship dynamics within Take That? Let us know your thoughts.
