Rylan Clark ‘devastated’ after being replaced on Big Brother: ‘I love the show’

Rylan Clark has expressed his disappointment after not being chosen to host the newly rebooted series of Big Brother. The beloved reality show made its return to ITV after a five-year hiatus, with AJ Odudu and Will Best stepping in as the new hosts. The show quickly regained its fanbase, prompting ITV2 to announce an upcoming series that will kick off next month.

On September 29, while appearing on Ready Steady Cook, Rylan openly shared his feelings about being overlooked for the presenting role. Rumors began swirling last year regarding potential hosts for Big Brother’s comeback, and Rylan was one of the names in contention. Having won the celebrity edition of Big Brother in 2013 and serving as the host for the spin-off show Big Brother’s Bit on the Side from 2013 to 2018, his connection to the franchise runs deep.

Reflecting on the situation, Rylan admitted that he was “quite upset” not to receive the call for the hosting gig. He stated, “Big Brother was a massive part of my life; it was my favorite thing in the world to do,” during an appearance on Loose Women in 2023.

Rylan has been vocal about his support for the show’s return over the years, labeling it as “the best reality show out there.” He shared that he was surprised not to be included in the new season, especially given his long-standing association with the brand. “I had been a part of it for nearly seven years, and I even built a Diary Room in my house because I love the show so much,” he explained.

He admitted, “I naively assumed that I would be asked back. I knew Emma Willis wasn’t returning, and since we are good friends, I thought I stood a good chance.” Realizing he was not part of the new lineup left him feeling disheartened. “I found out nearly at the same time as everyone else, which was difficult. I was devastated,” Rylan confessed.

Catch Rylan on Ready Steady Cook airing on Sunday, September 29, at 11:00 am on BBC Two. What are your thoughts on the story? Let us know in the comments section on our Facebook page.
